an executive is grappling with his
failure. His obvious question is how do I bounce back… Can i pose a seemingly
unrelated question next to his question which is how does a failure taste like… I flunked
my driving test last week. Big deal!! It felt crushing and I felt
very disoriented I remember this because when I was going from my test venue to
the train station I took a left lane instead of the right one. One reason
why we grapple with failure is perhaps because we don’t understand failure so
well. The commonly available wisdom perhaps in terms of motivational quotes
like don’t give up don’t quit etc which has a referencing of
fighting against failure in some sense which is where lies the disconnect.
On my journey back on the train I started to talk to myself what happened?
where did I go wrong? what could i have done? and in no time I was in this spiral
suddenly there was a jolt which shook me out of this conversation – my station had
arrived. At that point I suspended all my mental conversations and at that
moment I came in connect with failure, uncovered and at that moment I could
face my failure. When Life offers you failure I would say take a bite of it –
experience the sensations, the emotions or even the feelings that comes with it
this will help in deepening understanding of your own personal
failure and when you do that you are already bouncing
and in no time you will bounce back. Talking of which do you remember or
recollect your last failure how did it taste like be courageous and write down
below. Thank you!!
