Maruyama Sensei – Aikido e o amor ao próximo

Maruyama Sensei – Aikido e o amor ao próximo

That is how it was… In 2011 During my police time I met sir Maurício Freire a special class commisioner a bright commisioner Who currently works at SAT – Tactical Air Service
Here in São Paulo One day he called me and asked: “Maruyama, don’t you want to train the Arautos do Evangelho (Heralds of the Gospel)?” I didn’t knew them What is this, sir? “It’s some people I know
They need a self-defense training” I had nothing against the idea And we went there They were using those clothes,
all different I looked at it and said:
Wow, what a different group! Then I gave a lecture And they liked the talk I did some demonstrations
And we started training When I started I didn’t knew I was training
the guard of the Heralds of the Gospel And why did they need this? When the previous Pope Benedict XVI came to Brazil who made the closest escort to the Pope were precisely the Arautos do Evangelho So they wanted this competence So, when a Pope comes
or someone of high level They could make the escort So that’s how I started to train them And the following happened:
I realized that they were different people They were cheerful very enthusiastic They had a very good energy for training You know, the techniques can be sore But none of them complained All accepting those techniques and trying to understand It was a very enthusiastic group
and that affected me Those people are different It’s not common for people to be that way I saw this in training and I started to get interested I want to know what leads a person to have this enthusiasm this innocence
this purity of soul This will to do things With so much joy In November of 2011
I talked to the person in charge of the place Mr. Gilberto, until now… I know a few about Protestantism My grandfather, father of my mother
came to Brazil to spread the Gospel When he came
he was a Bible seller And my mother was also Protestant Until I was 18 I went to the evangelical cult So I knew that
Almost nothing of Catholicism And then I met Buddhism
by influence of Kawai Sensei That was Buddhist And I was begetting along this path I was 68 yers old at that time
4 years ago I started to feel that something was missing
In my evolution And then Mr. Gilberto pointed out a person
for me to study catechism Me and my wife Once a week, 2 hours
What I do until today To this day I go on Thursday in the Heralds I have a catechism class with Ueda Sensei A Nissei who knows the doctrine And I’m learning I started to be dazzled
because I saw that much of what he was saying of Catholic religion the Dogmas and Sacraments
were very close to Aikido concepts Of loving the neighbor
has O’Sensei always insisted Reconciling different opinions of our participation in the universe The energy issue So I was realizing some similarities and I started to get more enthusiastic about Catholicism This issue of loving others In the 10 commandments it is written Love your neighbor as yourself When Christ came Christ said: Love your neighbor as I have loved you New Testament is different Because the love of Christ came with sacrifice He sacrificed his own life for the salvation of us all This way of loving that’s what O’Sensei wanted In the word Aikido The first ideogram It’s written “AI” meaning “AWASU” to harmonize To concatenate
To do something together Energy coordination But it doesn’t stop there
In the books of O’Sensei He says that it starts there Then you have to climb
to a higher level Which is what Christ said
“Love your neighbor as I have loved you” Those who practice Aikido know very well what I’m going to say You are teaching a person
Teaching a Nikyo or Sankyo Which are the most painful When you are training with the person He applies you a Nikyo
If you’re more graduate than him You’re going to say:
“Look, it’s not working” You’ll say “Do like this to hurt more” So he does. If he’s strong he gets the hang of it and applies it on you This hurts a lot! The same with Sankyo When I trained Karate No one has ever told me
Punch me in the nose to hurt more” I haven’t saw this in karate Why do we do this in Aikido? The partner throws you on the floor and you say:
“Use your hips to make the coup much more powerful” The person is throwing you down
and you ask him to throw harder? You’re going to smash the floor What is that? You are sacrificing yourself So the other, along with you
will evolve into Aikido You can sacrifice yourself,
because you want him to evolve What is that?
It’s Christianity Is to love your neighbor “as I have loved you” with sacrifice One of the dogmas of the Catholic faith is confession Catholics knows what is to confess What is confessing? It’s a reflection about what we thought what we said what we have done and, above all, what we have omitted What we haven’t done I saw this only in Catholicism When you don’t do a thing that should’ve been done You are sinning When you are walking on the street and sees someone being assaulted if you look the other way and omits yourself You are sinning For us aikidokas
If we see someone being beaten a child being assaulted If you see this you have to intervene Because the peace that O’Sensei preached
It’s not this peace! It’s peace with justice And you as an aikidoka must intervene, so that peace
don’t be only yours but of the whole community in which you are in You can’t see something wrong and omit yourself We have to think about all this “Wait, I did it wrong …” How is an Aikido Training? We repeat the same movement several times Are you going to repeat a movement without thinking? It’s not like this How we do in an Aikido training
At least I always did so I look what I did
and in the next time I try to do it better That’s why we repeat To make each time better The “DO” As if my life depended on that movement We’ll do it carefully I am reflecting
I did it this way, next time… This happens very fast
He attacked, I do it in a way I realize something didn’t work out very well What will you do?
Won’t repeat the same way Otherwise your Aikido will stay always the same Usually people imagine that the Sensei will correct Is not it Sensei has no obligation to do this
He has an obligation to show Now, the search has to be personal It’s you who have to do it What is this?
Reflect on what you are doing to improve This is confession!
