Madison International Martial Arts (MKG) Tuesday Training Tips – Lead Switching

Welcome back to another Tuesday Training Tips this time we’re continuing to talk about
developing a solid foundation with basic lead switching footwork. Previous
videos we’ve talked about stances and basic footwork and I alluded to
different ways to make your footwork more interesting and one of the things I
said was switching leads and switching leads or not having a defined lead is a
very integral part of the Filipino martial arts and today we’ll talk about
two ways to switch from your left lead to your right lead back again but before you get started make sure you
find your stance our first one is called a lateral triangle we’re gonna step
forward with our right foot step directly back with it
and step forward again this is for repetitions then we have to make sure we’re
balanced on both sides so we step forward with our left step back with our left
and step forward with your left again that’s three steps on either side this
is your lateral triangle footwork. Our example of lead switching is called
female triangle footwork a female triangle footwork you won’t be stepping
forward and backwards in a straight line you’ll be making a V shape with your feet
again make sure that you find your stance so left foot will come back and then
my right foot will step forward my right foot will come back and my left foot will go
forward again every time that I step I’m taking this time to find my stance and
I’m not getting in a hurry as I step back and forth my feet meet in the
middle and then I step up So those are two ways that you can change your lead
as I said in the previous video this is one of many many ways that you can use
footwork we picked two today that focused on lead switching our
lateral triangle footwork and our female triangle footwork so if you’re creative
you’ll probably figure some out on your own I hope you enjoyed this week’s
tuesdays training tips and look for another video next Tuesday
