Hi, I’m Mike Payne, owner of the Academy for
the Martial Arts, speaking on behalf of Expert Village. I will cover the topic of what to
look for in a martial arts school. Our school has been in business for almost 22 years now.
I’ve only hired instructors that have come up through the ranks. That way, I personally
know their qualifications. I would suggest that you find an instructor who cares for
the students. Although, you may be the greatest martial artist in the world, you might be
a bad teacher. So, my first concern, for our students, is that we have great teachers.
I definitely feel that they need to be good in martial arts, as well. More importantly,
they must be able to transfer their knowledge to the students. Presenting it in a positive
way, where the kids are will benefit the most from it. I have instructors that have gone
on to other occupations. This job was a stepping stone for them to pursue great things in their
lives. One of my students was such a well rounded student, that he had 4.5 million dollars
worth of scholarship offers. Of course, it was mainly due to his leadership and his academic
abilities. However, noting, on his resume, that he is a black belt, was one of the things
that made him so appealing to all of these different colleges.
