Heaven Sinawali Translations

Heaven Sinawali Translations

Hey Brian Johns of Bamboo Spirit
Martial Arts Centre! Today we’re gonna demonstrate translation of heaven
sinawali to empty hand. So before we go any
further, I would refer you to the video that we shot a few weeks ago “How To
Translate Stick to Empty Hand Movement” I outlined some analytical tools that you
can use to analyze stick movement and translate it to empty hand. Click on the
button above to watch that video. So let’s go through the heaven sinawali
movement. Okay. So we’re going to do this nice and slow. Just watch. So you go fore hand,
back hand. That’s it. One, two, three, One, two three. One, two, three. Now in that video
that I did two weeks ago, I said you need to practice the movement and analyze the stick movement, do the empty hand equivalent, and apply the empty hand
equivalent to self-defense. Experimentation in other words. So let’s
analyze the stick version of heaven sinawali. Just do this really slow. So the
first movement is a fore hand movement the second movement is back hand.
The third is a back hand and a snapback. Same thing on the other side. Fore hand,
backhand, snapback. Okay now let’s put the sticks down and let’s do the empty hand
version of this. Okay. See if we can gain any insight into how empty hand version
of this works for you. Same movement. One, two, three. One, two, three. One
two, three. So if you notice it’s forehand, backhand and the arm extends when you
do the snapback. Let’s freeze there. So you go one
two, three. See how my arm extends? Let’s think about that in the empty hand
context. So I’m gonna run through some examples and see if that triggers some ideas in
you, the viewer. And if you have any ideas please comment below. So Alex is gonna do
a right hand punch. Many of you know this but block check counter comes from heaven
sinawali. You go one, here’s the backhand, two and here’s that extension I was talking
about. Oh, that’s block, check, counter. Or it can be
a slap off too. You got this here. But those three moves come from heaven
sinawali. Let’s do this. One, two, three. Ah, now we’re gonna get
somewhere. Okay. Let’s try a left-right combination. Okay. You go one, that’s the
forehand, two, that’s the backhand, three. it’s here. Mmm, now we’re we’re getting
somewhere now. So we go one, two three.
So what am I telling you here? Experiment against single punches, against two
punches in order to find the applications. So another way to try to
find applications is to have your training partner grab you in any way. Let’s
see if these three moves work for you. So here’s an example
Same side grab. So here okay, so what’s the first move in heaven sinawali? We go
forehand. What’s the second move? The backhand. The third move is the
extension of the arm right? So in this case, we can convert it to the dive
throw. To here. Okay so if you know the dive throw, it’s this.
Alright, so let’s try this again. So you have forehand, backhand, and you have
the dive throw. Ah! What’s that? So we have applications against a single punch
and left, right and the same side grab. See if that triggers any ideas in
you and if you come up with some ideas please comment in the video below. We’ll
read them and respond to them. So if you
haven’t done so by now, please subscribe to my channel and we’ll see you next
week! Thank you! you
