Competitive Judo Training : Ground Work in Competitive Judo

On behalf of Expert Village, I am Angel Perez
with Champion Martial Arts in Miami, Florida. Today we are talking about competitive Judo.
Okay, and now we are going to talk about “newazah”. Newazah is ground work. It?s very important
in competition for Judo because not everybody has a beautiful throwing technique. So, you
also have to be very well-versed on the ground. If you see right now, we have two of my assistants
on the ground doing what is newazah. They are a little bit too close to the wall for
my liking right now. But, John on the bottom apparently has or had an arm bar, which is
also allowed in Judo. Arm bars, chokes, are very important. Pins and just basic all around
ground control are very important in Judo. Actually, there are just as many wins in newazah,
ground work, as there are in stand up Judo techniques, where you throw your opponents.
